The good news is, you don’t need to be a full-time content creator to see results for your business. Whether you’re using TikTok to promote your business, build a personal brand, or just have a bit of fun, here are a few of our top tips to help you get started...

1. Let your personality do the talking
TikTok isn’t the place for perfection. Well-performing TikTok content is authentic, unfiltered and genuine - and it doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Think behind-the-scenes (BTS) clips, quick tips and tricks, light-hearted takes on your day-to-day, or even a blooper or two - it all helps to create a connection, and the more relaxed and real your content feels, the more likely it is to land with your audience.
2. Don’t ignore trending sounds
Not every trending audio will feel like a natural fit, especially if your brand tends to lean on the more serious side. But TikTok’s algorithm prioritises content that makes use of what’s trending - even if it's just a subtle nod to a popular sound – it can still give your content a boost!
You don’t have to jump on every trend (and definitely not the dance ones – unless you really have to), but having a scroll through the ‘For You’ page or TikTok’s trending library can provide inspiration. Think of trending sounds as a creative prompt, not a box to tick.
3. Don’t post and disappear
We’re all guilty of it - post done, job ticked off the list, onto the next thing...but it’s not going to get your results. TikTok rewards creators who stick around and engage, again and again. The first hour after you post is key, so it’s worth hanging about to interact with your audience and other creators in your niche.
Like, comment, duet, stitch... show the algorithm you’re active. It’ll be more likely to push your content out to a wider audience, and the more conversations you’re a part of, the more discoverable your content becomes.
4. Keep the conversation going
When someone takes the time to comment on your video, make sure to reply! A quick response can turn a casual viewer into a loyal follower or a customer, and if you respond with a video, even better.
Not only does it boost engagement on your post, but it can also inspire your next piece of content. Pay attention to the questions people ask, and answer them. If they react positively to a certain format or topic, double down on it. TikTok isn’t just a broadcasting platform, it’s a space to build a community and drive growth.
5. Experiment, review, repeat
Some videos will flop, others will fly - that’s just part of the ride. What matters most is consistency and by showing up regularly, learning what works, and tweaking your approach as you go, TikTok will be a valuable part of your communication strategy.
Make use of TikTok’s built-in analytics to get a better sense of what’s resonating, looking closely at things like watch time, engagement, and when your audience is most active. The more you understand your performance, the easier it becomes to refine your content strategy.
And finally, the biggest tip of all...
Don’t overthink it. TikTok isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being present - so if you’re waiting for the “perfect” idea, script or technical setup, you’ll probably be waiting a while.
Our advice? Open the app, hit record, and give it a go. You never know, your next post could be the one that goes viral!
